Rong comes from a rural area in Hunan. Her parents are farmers and she sometimes gives them a hand during her vacations. She is a natural leader who is often the one in charge in student groups, whether academic and otherwise. One of her biggest accomplishments to date is having led a team of freshmen in her school’s robotics competition, which is usually only open to sophomores and above. Her team did not possess the academic knowledge to solve all the problems, but eventually they succeeded anyway by self-studying and seeking the advice from professors and classmates. She wants to become an electric engineer and attend graduate school abroad. She is thankful for being part of the Qian Zheng Scholarship community because of the encouragement from the group to pursue her dual degree and specifically her mentor who has reinforced learning techniques, such as splitting a goal into many parts, each of which are easier to reach. She participates in the university chorus and plays volleyball and guitar to relax. She is an inspiration to the poor school children to whom she gives music lessons as a volunteer.
In 2016, as her academic and career interest developed, Rong switched to Finance major which suits her passion and capability better. Yet, Rong is still an active alumna in the QZMS community. |
