Tong is majoring in Traffic and Transportation, with a specialty in Urban Rail Transit. She loves her major and enjoys studying all kinds of interesting traffic phenomena in cities. In 2020, she was awarded a national scholarship for her outstanding academic performance.
She comes from a small town in Anhui province, where she “had little chance to see the outside world” until she was admitted to university in Beijing. Her father passed away in a car accident when she was 16 and since then, her mother has encouraged and nurtured her to “get her confidence back”. Tong is keen on community service. Since her freshman year, she has taken part in many volunteer activities, such as serving as a museum interpreter, helping others and improving herself at the same time. Now, she volunteers as a class assistant for the newcomers in the school, helping them adjust to college life and grow up quickly. In 2020, she tutored children of medical workers. Reading is her biggest hobby: “I fell in love with reading since junior high school and now I'm used to reading every day. Recently I'm reading some novels by French writers.” She also likes to listen to rock music, especially indie rock and post rock. One of her favorite quotes is by Dylan Thomas: "Don't go gentle into that good night." |
