I am a native of the beautiful country of Costa Rica but have been living in the San Francisco Bay Area since 2011. I grew up near rivers, mountains and rainforests, through which I spent many hours mountain biking. Since moving to the US, I’ve also traveled to Europe and Africa and visited China five times. During the various trip to Beijing, I have met many of the Qian Zheng Scholars and hope to meet more on my future travels.
After having worked for several years in my home country, I completed my Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science at the University of California Davis in December 2015. My parents did not complete high school -- my brothers and I are the first generation in my family to attend university, so I know first-hand the importance of but difficulty in financing tertiary education. My goal is to start a career as a software programmer and earn some money to set up a similar scholarship fund in memory of my father to benefit students from my hometown of Ciudad Neily. In the meantime, I will contribute my computer science skills to host and administer the Qian Zheng Memorial Scholarship website. |
