Juan is a confident young woman who prides herself on having her own opinions instead of following the trend. She is trying her best to be independent and save every penny so her parents’ financial burden is lightened. Her mother is a cleaner and her father a courier. In addition, her father suffers from a rare skin. Juan also has an older sister who just became a mother herself. “I am really grateful to my parents because they provided a precious chance of going to college for both my sister and me with their hard-earned money.”
She ranks among the top 15% of her class and she likes her major a lot. Her favorite course is Auto Control. She also participated in the Undergraduate Electronic Design Contest and College Students’ Electronic Circuit Design Contest. After her undergraduate studies, she plans to proceed with a masters program and would like to use the scholarship to prepare for the IELTS exam to potentially study abroad or at least attend the courses at her university taught by foreign professors. At the end of her sophomore year, she successfully interviewed for a marketing job and completed her tasks while juggling final exams. She is very glad that she was able to gain this very different experience and also realize that she still prefers to pursue a career as an automation engineer. Since freshman year, she has participated in community service activities almost every weekend, including visiting the elderly and volunteering during the Youth Olympic Games. During summer 2015, she was a speaker on the Yanxing summer inspirational speech tour visiting different high schools in Henan province: “I learned to open myself and express myself fluently and confidently on the stage.” She loves many types of sports, including running, roller skating, rock climbing, walking, swimming and yoga, as well as reading, listening to music and chatting. |
