Song has a wonderfully positive and outgoing personality. Despite having experienced misfortune during her childhood, such as almost losing her mother to a car accident, she remains optimistic and feels that it has made her into a more mature and stronger person. Her parents are both farmers and she has an older sister who just graduated from university and a much younger sister. Like many of her peers, she tutors on the side to alleviate the financial burden on her family. Song wants to be electronic engineer. She was initially daunted by the prospect of studying electrical engineering, as she hadn’t had much experience with computers growing up on the countryside. Now she boasts good grades in math and physics and even took 3rd prize in circuit welding contest. She finds that she is most energized and competitive when in such contests. She reports that this past year: “I learned to weld a radio, and although I burned my hands many times, my welding technique has improved a lot.”
She feels much gratitude towards the people who helped the along the way, from elementary through high school. As a result, she is very involved on campus, serving as a representative of the university’s student government and volunteering in the library, as well as at Yanxing events. “The existence of this organization makes me even more convinced that girls can succeed through hard work, the identity of Qian Zheng Memorial Scholar is my motivation.” |
