Xiaobing is definitely a do-er, unafraid to tackle challenges. She came from an average school in her hometown of Urumqi and struggled during her first year, but she persevered and ended up getting stellar grades in some of her hardest courses. This spirit is evident in all else she does, no wonder her personal motto is “No pain, no gain”. Xiaobing has been working on the side to support herself and contribute to her family's finances since she was 16. Her father is a cook and her mother works for a hotel. She continues to hold part-time jobs and tutor high school students.
Her goal is to become an engineer in the mechatronics field and wishes to study abroad if given the opportunity. Looking back on her last school year, she says: “I think one of the biggest improvements is the ability of self-study. I was trained to search the information in many ways and get rid of the dependency of standard answers. In order to demonstrate my answers, I usually analyze the question using different methods.” In the near-term, she hopes to travel more and open her eyes further to the world, meeting “outstanding persons…to encourage me to pursue higher objectives”. Outside of the classroom, she is a proud member representing her university on Yanxing’s Executive Committee and is responsible for organizing activities, such as a meet up each Sunday similar to ToastMasters. She is also a staff reporter for her college newsletter and hopes to buy an SLR camera one day to further develop her hobby of photography. [If it weren’t for QZMS] “I would not have made so many friends and shared so many unforgettable experiences. I would not have had regular opportunity for practicing English. I would not have had the knowledge for how to build a team.” |
