FENG Yanxia 冯艳霞

Science & Engineering of Chemical Materials
Nanjing University, Class of 2019
Hometown: Wuhai, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region

Yanxia comes from a big family with six members: hardworking parents who are workers and always working in another place far away from home, a younger brother aged 15 and her grandparents. The education system of her hometown is poor, so she pursued her studies alone at an outstanding senior high school, after graduating from her junior high school with the highest score.

She chose her major because she thought although all fields of science are important, materials science underlies many technological advances and is a major combines theory and practice tightly. She wants to study abroad after graduation and be an excellent researcher or an engineer of MSE. She has already begun preparing for the TOEFL, so she can strive for an opportunity to attend a summer school abroad as an exchange student.

She spends three hours per week leading volunteer activities for Youth Volunteer Association of College of Engineering and Applied Science at Nanjing University. She enjoys volunteer activities and she makes friends with children, disabled people and other volunteers. She plans to use the scholarship to alleviate the financial burden on her parents and cover TOEFL registration and tuition fees.

“I think the most valuable thing [about QZMS] is talking to students from other backgrounds and mentors who have more experiences. To be specific, mentors and guests who were invited to attend our video chatting and workshop provided many useful views from a perspective I cannot think about.”
