DONG Tian was born in a small village in Hebei Province, which is located on the edge of the state-level, impoverished county, Xingtang. Both her father and mother are farmers. Sadly, her father is suffering from heart disease and has lost his ability to work. Despite this, her parents are still optimistic and have high hopes towards life. In 1998, when Tian was born, they picked up the name “Tian(甜)” for their little baby, wishing her life full of “sweetness”. Under the influence of her parents, Tian developed a bright and cheerful character as she grew up; there is always a big smile on her face.
Tian is a junior at Beihang University currently, studying Electronic Information and Engineering. She considers her major as a combination of physics and math, both of which she has a great deal of interest. This gives her great motivation to dive deeper in her studies. She has started doing research on flexible electronics and wireless communication under the instruction of professors at Beihang University. In her spare time, she volunteers to help other students with their studies and shares her own lecture notes. Apart from these, Tian took part in many academic competitions to help her get a better and deeper knowledge of what she has learned. So far she has won the first prize in the National Physics Competition and the first prize in the National Mathematical Contest in Modeling. The “plug-and-play SCM module” she invented is in the process of being patented. During the summer of 2018, Tian was sent to Imperial College London by Beihang University to attend Summer School. It was in Europe that she realized how broad the world is. She made friends with people from different countries and, from them, she learned a lot of interesting things. After getting back to China, Tian signed up for a volunteer project called “Yuanhang Buddy”, where she works as a partner for exchange students from Lund University in Sweden, helping them to better adapt to China. As for her future, Tian wants to improve her programming skills because for whatever we do in technology nowadays, software has become foundational. She thinks the integration of software and hardware will be a good method to become a qualified engineer. “Stay hungry, stay foolish” is a motto that Tian learned from Apple’s late founder, Steve Jobs, in a TED talk. Since then she fell in love with trying new things and never regretted what she had chosen. |
